"Antaeus Hayes at his first practice with KFI - Iceland"
Reykjavik, Iceland – On Tuesday, November 22, former Nyack All-American guard
Antaeus Hayes practiced for the first time as a professional basketball player. Hayes recently signed with KFI, a team in Iceland’s Division 1 professional league.
“Obviously, with Thanksgiving two days away, I have much to be grateful for this year,” said Hayes. “God has blessed me with talent and now He has blessed me with an opportunity to continue my career at the professional level.”
Three days after his arrival, Hayes suited up for the first time for his new team. He made a spectacular debut, pouring in 26 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in a tough 3-point loss to league rival Drangur.
Hayes, a former All-CACC and NYC All-Met selection, scored over 1,000 points in his two-year career with the Warriors. He is the first player in the history of the Nyack basketball program to sign a professional contract. He is the eighth player that
Coach Jones has worked with (either as an assistant or head coach) to reach the professional ranks.
Antaeus said, “I am thankful for my parents and for Coach Jones because they never stopped believing in me. They kept pushing me and encouraging me to reach my potential.” Antaeus will return to the United States for the Iceland League’s mid-season break sometime in January 2006. He will visit Nyack during this time and will be honored at a men’s basketball home game.
