Craig W. Ellison, Ph.D.

DIRECTOR
     

Dr. Ellison is the Director of AGSC, and Professor of Counseling & Urban Studies. He received his Ph.D. from Wayne State University. He has over 20 years of experience as a therapist. He is author or editor of seven books, including From Stress to Well-Being and Healing for the City (with Dr. Ed Maynard), and numerous professional and popular articles. He is on the National Advisory Board of the American Association of Christian Counselors and is a contributing editor for the Journal of Psychology and Theology. His weekly radio broadcast, "Perspectives on Personal Living" has been heard throughout the U.S. for over 18 years. He was the founding director of two major cross-cultural counseling centers in San Francisco and New York. He has also received the Distinguished Member Award from the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. He is married to Sharon, and they have three adult children.

Carol Diaz Robles, M.S.W., Ph.D..

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

 

Dr. Robles is the Assistant Director of AGSC. She holds the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University (New York) and an M.S.W. from New York University. She has taught previously at City University of New York and Roberts Wesleyan College (New York) and currently teaches at Nyack College. She has worked as a psychologist for the New York City Board of Education, Fordham-Tremont Mental Health Clinic, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and New York Foundling Hospital. She holds licenses as a NYS Psychologist, NYS Certified Social Worker and NYC Bilingual School Psychologist.

   
   
 

Freddy Baez, M.S.W., LCSW-R, CASAC
  

Freddy Baez is an Adjunct Faculty Member in Counseling. Holding an MSW from Fordham University and credentialed as a Substance Abuse and Alcoholism Counselor, Mr. Baez is the Director of Psycho-Social Services and is Psychotherapist at Full Circle Health in the Bronx. He has been an adjunct professor at the Alliance Theological Seminary since 1997 teaching several courses. He is also currently an Associate Pastor and a vital part of Bronx Coalition for Christian Counseling.

   

Dennis R. Borg, D. Min.

 

Dr. Borg is a Partnering Faculty Member in Counseling. He is also director of Integrity Ministries, a ministry to the business and professional world in Southern New Jersey that he started in 1995. Prior to his present position, he was a full-time professor at Alliance Theological Seminary in the area of pastoral studies and counseling. Before coming to ATS he served as a pastor for 22 years. He has been an adjunct professor for a number of years at both ATS and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Borg is a graduate of Nyack College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and also attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. For the past 22 years, Dr. Borg has also had a family counseling practice in the Southern New Jersey area. He is licensed by the state of New Jersey as a marriage and family counselor, and is a clinical member of the AAFMT and a charter member of the AACC. He and his wife Charlotte have two children, two stepchildren, and ten grandchildren.

   
 

Major John R. Cheydleur, Ph.D., ACSW
  

Dr. Cheydleur is an Adjunct Faculty Member in Counseling. He is Territorial Social Services Secretary with policy and oversight responsibilities for The Salvation Army Social Services Program in the eleven states (11) comprising the Northeastern United States and Puerto Rico. Dr. Cheydleur received his M.A. in Counseling Psychology form Loyola University in Chicago. Major Dr. Cheydleur is the author of four books and more than 40 professional and popular articles. He is a member of the North American Association of Christians in Social Work, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. He is a contributor to Baker?s Encyclopedia of Psychology and the Soul Care Bible. His most recent book is Called to Counsel, published by Tyndale House in 1999. He resides with his wife Judith in West Nyack, New York. They have three children and five grandchildren.

James Chin, Ph.D.
     

Dr. Chin is an Assistant Professor of Counseling for AGSC. Dr. Chin is in private practice at Agape Psychological Services, P.C., a professional Christian counseling service providing mental health services to the Christian and secular communities in the New York - Long Island areas. He earned his doctoral degree from Hofstra University and completed post-doctoral training at the Institute for Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Chin has over twenty-five years of experience in the mental health field. He has served as a clinician in a variety of public and private inpatient and outpatient institutions. His areas of clinical interest, research and publication include work in addictive behaviors, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, schizophrenia and the integration of psychology and theology. Dr. Chin has been on the faculty of various educational institutions and he has served as a consultant to numerous governmental and Christian agencies. He is married and has two children.

   

Elaine L. Eng, M.D.  
     

Dr. Eng is a Partnering Faculty Member in Counseling. She is a graduate of Princeton University with a B.A. in Biology and certification in the Program of Science and Human Affairs. She received her M.D. in 1980 from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After training in obstetrics and gynecology, she then completed a psychiatric residency and is board certified in psychiatry. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In order to develop her Christian faith and integrate it into her career in medicine, Dr. Eng entered the Lay Ministry Program of Concordia College and studied Old and New Testament, biblical doctrine, counseling in the church and Christian education. Her professional interests include the treatment of people suffering from anxiety disorders as well as women with psychiatric conditions that are related to reproduction, and counseling for the disabled populations. Dr. Eng writes, lectures and travels extensively. Among her publications is a book on anxiety disorders for the Christian "Martha, Martha: How Christians Worry" and her newest book, "A Christian Approach to Overcoming Disability: A Doctor's Story" (Haworth Press). She maintains a private practice in New York and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Eng is currently the President of the Board of Directors at the Boro Pregnancy Counseling Center.

   
   

Michael W. Gillern, D. Min.

 

Dr. Gillern is an Assistant Professor of Counseling. He has been a therapist at the Southern Connecticut Christian Counseling Center since 1985. He holds graduate degrees from Gordon-Conwell (Massachusetts), New School for Social Research (New York) and Trinity Divinity School (Illinois). He has been extensively involved in providing a wide variety of workshops to churches in Connecticut and has also taught at The Kings College (New York). These include a support group for Pastors, Divorce Recovery Workshops, and Marriage & Family seminars. He has also served as an Oncology Chaplain at Lake Forest Hospital and with the Department of Mental Health in Lake County, Illinois. He and his wife Lois have two children.
   

Pamela E. Hall, Psy.D.

 

Dr. Hall is an Adjunct Faculty Member in Counseling. She is a Licensed Psychologist in the states of New Jersey and New York with two offices in New Jersey. Dr. Hall is a renowned expert in the field of dissociative disorders. She has worked in a variety of settings including Yale University, Muhlenberg Medical Center and John F. Kennedy Medical Center. She is a highly recognized and much sought after consultant and lecturer. Dr. Hall is the Founder and President of the International Society for the Study of Dissociation. Her doctoral studies were completed at Pace University in New York, New York.

Deanna Kwan, Ph.D.
   
Dr. Deanna Kwan is an Assistant Professor in Counseling. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She completed her clinical internship and fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Payne Whitney. Dr. Kwan has expertise in the areas of psychotherapy for personality disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and neuropsychological/psychological assessment. Her research interests are in the areas of dissociation and interpersonal/personality variables.

Janet Lerner, D.S.W.

 

Dr. Lerner is a Partnering Faculty Member in Counseling. She received her doctorate in Social Work Research from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1988. She is the Administrator of Research and Development in a large substance abuse treatment organization in New York City. She has more than 28 years experience working in substance abuse treatment and recently opened Freedom Institute for Research and Training on Addiction. Dr. Lerner is an experienced clinician who has provided leadership for Restoration Ministry in New York City since its inception in 1993. In this capacity, Dr. Lerner works with Church leadership to develop and implement a ministry for women and men who are survivors of sexual abuse and violent family experiences as children. She has written ?Restoring Families: Overcoming Abusive Relationships Through Christ?, published by Turning Point Ministries. Dr. Lerner also has a private counseling practice that serves Christian women, children and families

   
 

Marcia Lucas, Psy.D.

 

Dr. Lucas is Assistant Professor of Counseling. She is a Senior Clinical Consultant with Full Circle Health, LLC in the Bronx. She has over 15 years of combined experience in psychology, medicine, and education. Dr. Lucas is also a respected motivational speaker, workshop leader, and educator. Her award winning work in the community focuses on multiple areas of expertise that includes: sexual abuse, working with difficult children, depression, inner healing, culture, listening recovery, and trauma. Dr. Lucas has studied at New York?s Lehman College and Yale University. She received her doctorate from Yeshiva University Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology.
   

Elissa Lin Rathe, MSW, Ph.D.

 

Elissa Lin Rathe, LCSW, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Counseling and Internship Director at Alliance Graduate School of Counseling. She also has a private practice in Mid-town Manhattan and in Lower Westchester. Elissa received her BSW from New York University, MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work and PhD in Psychoanalysis from Heed University. Elissa has extensive experience in working with survivors of abuse, people with eating disorders, substance users, various personality, affective and psychological disorders, people struggling with sexual identity issues, and with HIV infected and affected population. She works modern psychoanalytically with children through play therapy, with adults in individual therapy, and couples in pre/marital therapy. Additionally, she enjoys providing supervision and clinical training to mental health professionals.

   
 

Doreen Stewart, Ph.D.
    

Dr. Stewart is an Adjunct Faculty Member in Counseling. She received her doctorate in psychology with a specialization in clinical psychology from Southern Illinois University. She completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University. She has conducted numerous seminars and workshops, and has conducted numerous seminars and workshops, and has co-authored several professional journal articles. She is currently on staff at Albert Einstein College of Medicine Sound View Throgs Neck Community Mental Health Center where she holds a faculty position. She is a consultant with Rheedlaw Family Services and has been on the Board of Directors of Beth-Hark Christian Counseling Center for five years.

   

 

Evangeline (Eve) Tolley, Ph.D.

 

Dr. Eve Tolley is an Adjunct Professor of Counseling. She received her B.S. from the University of Missouri, M.S. from the University of North Florida, Ph.D. from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, and her M.Div. and S.T.M. degree from Yale Divinity School. In 1985, she was recognized for scholarship and outstanding research by Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and was awarded the ?School of Social Work Merit Scholarship? by the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a lifetime member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She has more than 20 years of combined experience in social work, professional counseling and pastoral care. Currently, she volunteers her counseling and pastoral care skills to the Macedonia AIDS ministry and serves on agencies in Fairfield County, Connecticut. She is a frequent guest preacher in several congregations and serves as Worship Director in an assisted living facility for seniors. She is currently working on a book that will integrate a model for spirituality development into the theoretical frameworks of the ?Membership Model? in working with individuals, families and groups.
