Lifestyle Agreements and Statements

We believe that the Bible is the authority for doctrine and living and that personal purity and piety of personal life should be the goal of each Christian. Men and women who aspire to Christian leadership must develop standards and values, which are rooted in the Word of God. ATS students often form groups for mutual support and spiritual growth. They associate with a local church for worship and service. ATS seeks candidates for admission whose life-style and personal demeanor commend them to ministry.

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act Statement:

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 permits enrolled college and seminary students access to certain credentials in their files. Because of the importance of preserving the confidentiality of letters of recommendation, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act permits an educational institution to suggest that an applicant may waive his or her right of access to letters of recommendation. Signing such a waiver is not required as a condition of admission, receipt of financial aid from, or receipt of any other services or benefits from ATS or AGSC.

In order that the institution may have valid recommendations, it is suggested that the applicant consider waiving his or her right to see such letters of recommendation. Please be assured that letters of recommendation (along with transcripts and your own application) are used solely to determine an applicant’s qualification for admission. Alliance Theological Seminary & Alliance Graduate School of Counseling will furnish (upon the applicant’s request) the names of all individuals supplying references. However, the identity of those to whom he or she gives reference forms is generally known to the applicant. Signing the waiver statement on the reference form is all that is necessary on your part.

Statement of Faith:

ATS and AGSC are committed to a thoroughly evangelical Christian view of humanity and the world.

We Believe:

There is one God, who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest. He will come again to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace. The Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to indwell, guide, teach, empower the believer and convince the world of sin, righteousness, and of judgment.  The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of man. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice. Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God; he fell through disobedience, incurring thereby physical and spiritual death. All men are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The portion of the impenitent and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment; and that of the believer, in everlasting joy and bliss. Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God.  It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and sanctified wholly, being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service. This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion. Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the church in this present age. The church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the church, which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations. The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observances of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life; for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment. The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal, visible and premillennial. This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.

Standard of Conduct:

ATS & AGSC recognize the value of maintaining standards that contribute to the atmosphere on campus, foster fellowship with a wide range of Christians and, in many instances, assist in strengthening our Christian testimony to our community. Students and employees are asked to be supportive of these standards. ATS/AGSC is for earnest Christians who are sensitive to the principles of Christian living that are found in the Bible. The Bible establishes basic principles for Christian character and behavior.
These include the following:

-The Lordship of Christ over all of life and thought. This involves a life of faith in wholehearted obedience
to the moral teaching of the Bible and careful stewardship in all of life.
-The responsibility to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Unselfish
love should be the motive in all decisions, actions, and relationships.
-The responsibility to pursue righteousness and practice justice and mercy to everyone.
-The need to exercise our freedom responsibly within the framework of God's Word, with loving regard for
the sensitivities of others. 
-Regular participation in church worship and activities, which forms a necessary context for Christian living.

A Christian lifestyle is expected of all members of the ATS/AGSC community. It consists of practicing Christian virtues and avoiding attitudes and actions that the Bible condemns as sinful. Christian virtues that members of this learning community are expected to exhibit include humility, honesty, a forgiving spirit, faith, hope and love. Attitudes that the Bible condemns and ATS/AGSC regards as spiritually or morally unacceptable include greed, jealousy, pride, lust, bitterness, uncontrolled anger, and prejudice based on race, sex, or socio-economic status. In addition, drunkenness, stealing, profanity, unfair discrimination, dishonesty, occult practices, illegal activities, and sexual sins such as pre-marital sex, and adultery are unacceptable. ATS & AGSC expects students to refrain from alcoholic beverages, drugs, tobacco and gambling. Students are expected to exercise discernment, and to abstain from all activities that tend to be morally degrading. Tangible evidence of maturing Christian convictions and discerning judgment is expected of each student. These standards apply to the student, both on campus and off campus while enrolled in any of the programs of the institution. ATS& AGSC reserves the right to dismiss a student who, in its judgment, does not conform to stated regulations governing student conduct, or to the expressed principles, policies, programs and expectations of the school.
