Welcome to the Criminal Justice Program ![]() The Criminal Justice program at Nyack College is designed to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of crime and the criminal justice system utilizing a restorative justice approach. Its mission is to prepare students for culturally sensitive service to individuals, families, and communities impacted by crime. Graduates of the program will integrate social and restorative justice principles with professional criminal justice skills that enable creative solutions to crime and criminal behavior. This program is structured to comply with the certification standards of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. This major is under the auspices of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.
Restorative Justice Approach
The Nyack College criminal justice major places a strong emphasis on the principles and practices of restorative justice. Restorative justice is a biblically based view of criminal justice that attempts to engage victims, offenders, the affected communities, and government institutions in bringing about deep and lasting solutions by focusing on healing and restoration. This major is offered at the Rockland Campus and the Manhattan campus.
