Alumnus Selected for Teach for America

Aaron Newcome, a 2009 Nyack College Adolescent Education/ English graduate, is currently working with Teach for America. This highly selective organization accepts only a few highly qualified applicants, including only a small percentage, even from America’s most prestigious institutions, including Ivy League universities.

Teachers accepted must meet rigorous criteria including:

  • Leadership and achievement
  • Perseverance
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Superior organizational ability
  • Respect for diversity
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Superior work ethic

Having met the rigid and parallel criteria of the School of Education SALT (Service-Academics-Leadership-Teaching) model, Aaron was an ideal candidate to meet the challenges of Teach for America and its vision to select individuals to excel as teachers and improve the quality of education for children growing up in low-income communities.
