Spring ’11 Donald Junkins: Poetry Reading, April 6, 2011 (7:30 pm, President Hall)

Donald Junkins is Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts. He has been awarded the New Letters poetry award and has been the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts grants.  His poems have appeared in nine anthologies including American Anthology/2 (selected by Anne Sexton) and The New Yorker Book of Poems.  He has authored numerous volumes of poetry including, Playing for Keeps, Journey to the Corrida, and Late at Night in the Rowboat.  He is the poetry editor of The North Dakota Quarterly.  He read from his new collection entitled Swans Island Buoys and Other Lines.

Spring ’11 Rosanna Warren: Poetry Reading, March 7, 2011 (7:30 pm, Pardington Hall)

Rosanna Warren is Emma MacLachlan Metcalf Professor of the Humanities at Boston University.  She has authored one chapbook (Snow Day) and three collections of poems: Each Leaf Shines Separate, Stained Glass, and Departure.  Stained Glass won the Lamont Poetry Award from the Academy of American Poets.  She has been awarded fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, ACLS, The Ingram Merrill Foundation and Lila Wallace Readers' Digest Fund, among others.  She served as the Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets from 1999-2005.  She read selections from her forthcoming collection entitled Ghost in a Red Hat.

Spring ’11 Theatre Experience: Broadway, March 6, 2011 (8:00pm, American Airlines Theatre)

Students in Dr. Gates's Senior Seminar attended the recent revival of Tennessee Williams's lesser-known The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymoreon Broadway.  Starring veteran actress Olympia Dukakis, the play explored one of Williams’s most enduring themes: the plight of the fugitive kind.
