Winterim
Winterim Courses will be traveling between Dec. 30th 2012 and January 16th 2013. Spring GS-L courses will correspond with the Nyack College Spring Break. More precise dates will be available in September when airline tickets are purchased. 
Hong Kong, Macau, China (multi-cities), Korea – MUS 361RQ Chamberfest Asia

Estimated Cost: $3,000

The course/tour involves a cross-cultural experience to explore and showcase classical and folk chamber music influenced by Asian, American, and some Western cultures.  It also aims to service and enrich the local communities by sharing the gift of music.  The format is a multi-city Chamberfest performance and cultural enrichment tour.  The constituents are comprised of selected high quality performers and composers, ranging from music majors to non-music majors, accepted by interview and audition only.  Other than performance, assignments include research and reading on these cultures and their music, as well as concert speaking.

ATS Rockland - Israel – OT 780: Historical & Cultural Foundations of the Bible

Cost: $3,680

This trip is an "original," designed for those who want to reach the profoundest levels of impact of the environment and cultures of the biblical peoples upon the Bible.   We do this trip especially for students, both current and life-long, running it only once every two years.  It is simply the most complete excursion we offer out of BibleSettings with full exposure to all regions of the land, especially the desert, with course/site materials included.  It will be awhile before we offer it again.  Don't miss it.

Mexico - BUS 381: Outreach to Mexico From a Business Perspective

Join the Business Department and Business Club in Cancun. You will gain exposure to both Mexican and expatriate entrepreneurs and businessmen, serve with local ministries and businesses, and gain experience in a business department venture supporting and developing the services of a Christian bookstore.

Italy – FNA 252: Fine Arts in The City of Venice
Estimated Cost: $2,800

Featuring the galleries, museums, and churches of Venice, Fine Arts in the City of Venice is an art-intensive course in which students explore the Venetian Islands for the weeks surrounding the colorful celebration of the Epiphany. Side trips to the home of Titian in the Alps near Cortina and to the ancient Tuscan city of Siena offer a rare perspective on the art and culture of a fabulous country. Time to explore the City in small groups is part of the Venetian experience. Included in the survey are major works of art, sculpture, architecture, theater, and music. Through the travel opportunities and the Ecollege Companion Course, students will earn  three credits of Core in Fine Arts.

Israel – BIB 384: Geographic & Historical Settings of The Bible
Cost: $3,450
 
This course is a study of the physical, historical and cultural features of the land of the Bible with an emphasis on how those elements influenced and affected settlement, communication, biblical and extra biblical history. It also comprises a focus on historical geography, which is an integration of geography, history, archaeology and toponomy. Preparatory assigned readings and map studies will maximize the student’s learning experience during their travel in Israel. Relevant archaeological, historical, and biblical information will be presented in our field study to integrate the student’s learning experience.

Philippines – SWK 367: Poverty and Children in Southeast Asia
Cost: $2,750
 
This course is intended to familiarize students with social work and human services organizations within a global context. Students will be engaged in social and community development internationally. This service-learning intensive course confronts the realities of contextual community transformation. It provides students with opportunities to study, observe, compare and integrate perspectives and approaches to community and social development used by social services organizations including faith based entities. Faculty instruction will build the framework for students as they work directly with organizations globally.

Turkey – HUM 260 Special Topics: Turkish Delight

Cost: $3,000

*Honors Students*  Students will visit Istanbul and select Western and Central Cities in Turkey.  Students will grapple with understanding and living out a vibrant and historically informed Christian faith. Moreover, they will use their study of accounts of the past and encounters with nationals to expand their understanding of World Christianity and a deeper appreciation of the matters that separate and unite Christians and Muslims. Students will examine personal faith and mission traditions, while working and worshipping alongside others from different religious traditions.   Students will participate in cross-cultural worship experiences, observe local outreach efforts, and eat meals with local residents. Students will also encounter cultural expressions, such as, dance, music, and clothing.

Costa Rica/Panama – ICS 460: The Journey of the Bean

Spring 2013

Estimated Cost: $1,900

Learn about the coffee trade experientially, experience Central American culture, engage significant development issues and meet with people serving in these contexts. You will experience life in coffee country, from the very harvesting the berries of coffee trees to the steaming cup of coffee in New York. Learn about free vs. fair trade coffee practices, community development in coffee communities, and the many different layers of the coffee industry.

*This course requires rigorous travel and includes hiking, climbing volcanos, and exploring in coffee fields.
